This policy explains what information BestSavings.au (“we”, “us”) handles when you visit bestsavings.au or use the BestSavings.au browser extension, and how we handle it. We aim to collect as little as possible.
The website
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard request data (IP address, browser user agent, page requested, time) for security and to keep the site running. These logs are not used to identify or profile visitors.
- Cookies. WordPress sets cookies only if you log in or leave a comment. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Links to other sites. Deals link to third-party stores such as the Epic Games Store. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave bestsavings.au.
BestSavings.au browser extension
The BestSavings.au extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge alerts you to free Epic Games Store offers and builds a combined Epic checkout link. It does not collect, sell or share personal information.
- What it downloads. About every 15 minutes, the extension requests the public offer list from
https://bestsavings.au/wp-json/sog-epic/v1/offers. The request carries no cookies, account or identifier. As with any web request, our server sees your IP address and browser user agent in its standard logs. - Game artwork. When you open the popup, cover images load directly from Epic Games’ image servers (cdn1.epicgames.com), which receive your IP address as with any image request.
- Settings. Your notification and platform choices are saved in your browser’s sync storage (
chrome.storage.sync). If browser sync is enabled, Google or Microsoft syncs them to your other devices under their own privacy policies. We never receive them. - Local data. The latest offer list and which offers you have already seen or been notified about are kept only on your device (
chrome.storage.local). They are removed when you uninstall the extension. - No tracking. The extension has no analytics, no advertising and no remote code. It cannot read your browsing history or the pages you visit, and it only has permission to contact bestsavings.au.
- Purchases. The extension never signs in to Epic or places orders. Checkout always happens on the Epic Games Store, where you confirm the total is A$0.00 yourself.
Permissions used: alarms (the 15-minute check), storage (your settings and the cached offer list), notifications (optional desktop alerts, each of which can be turned off) and host access to bestsavings.au only (to download the offer list).
Your choices
You can turn off any extension notification on its Settings page, or uninstall the extension to remove all of its local data. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
